How to Fix WordPress Theme Issues Quickly

With more people taking to the internet to explore their creative side, WordPress has become increasingly popular, with its easy operations and extremely powerful tools. However, there is no denying the fact that this portal has some issues that most users come across in everyday life.

One of the main problems that most WordPress users have confessed to coming across is the issue with the themes. The portal offers its users a wide range of themes that they can use to enhance the look of their websites. However, many times, the users come across problems that they have no idea how to resolve.

Here are some quick fixes for the common WordPress theme issues:

Missing Stylesheet:

You just bought an awesome theme for your WordPress account and can’t wait to upload it. But, when you try, the upload fails – the reason being that the stylesheet seems to be missing. What does this mean? Did the dealer cheat you? No.

It means you are not looking in the right place. In order to load a theme, you need to have the style.css file in the zip file that the dealer sent you. But, just because you can’t find the file in the main directory, don’t jump to any conclusions. Many dealers place the stylesheet in a subdirectory. Look for it. The name of the file will be the same as the name of the theme, thus making it easy for you to locate it. As soon as you find the file, zip it up and upload it using WordPress. You can also upload the unzipped file using the FTP.

Homepage Looks Different From the Demo:

You choose a theme only when you are totally satisfied with its demo version. However, after purchasing it, if you feel that the homepage does not look as great as the demo, you are not the only one with the issue.

The reason for this difference could be that most theme designers use design templates to create their homepage. Thus, going through the documents that accompany the theme can help in resolving this issue. You can also create a new page by opening the editor and clicking on Page Attributes and then Templates under it.

See if there is an option like a Home Template or a Homepage Template. If it is there, you can use this to create your homepage. Follow this by selecting Settings and checking the Static Page Option under Reading.

Unattractive URLs:

Your URLs play a crucial role in the SEO of your website. However, most often, these are automatically created and are not at all SEO-centric. So, if you feel that your mockup URLs just don’t seem as good as the others that you came across, you can rectify it easily.

Just click on Settings and choose the Permalinks option. Select the URL that seems best to you. You can also come up with your ideas and set them accordingly.

Blank Menus:

This is a common issue that most new users using the WordPress Templates 2016 face. However, this is not a serious issue. All you need to do is set the menu.

Click on Appearance and choose Menu. Here, you can design the menu the way you want. You can look for step-by-step guides that will help you set the menu quickly.

Style Changes not being Reflected:

Once you have uploaded the theme and installed the menu, you may want to add a personal touch to the website. But, sometimes you may be unable to make these changes. There would be other times when these changes are just not reflected.

The main reason for this issue could be that you have a caching plugin enabled which caches the CSS file and does not allow changes. Check if you have this plugin enabled. If yes, disable it to make style changes to your portal.

If you are using the WordPress Customizer to make changes to your theme, make sure to save the changes and then refresh the page. This will help you in seeing the style changes that you have made to the theme.

Sliders and Tabs not Working:

After buying a WordPress theme and uploading it, if you see that the sliders and tabs on your page are not working, there is no need to panic. This usually happens when there is a conflict of plugins.

Log on to the theme dashboard and select the Plugin option. Deactivate a plugin and check the tabs and sliders. In case, the problem has not been resolved, activate this plugin and deactivate the next one. For this, you would have to use a trial-and-hit method and keep trying till the tabs and sliders start working.

Bring the faulty plugin to the notice of the theme developers and they are sure to help you out.
